What else goes into our luscious soaps?

These are the things that turn our Blue Mountain Soapworks soaps from ordinary into extraordinary!!

There are many wonderful Jamaican herbs, spices, and other botanicals we may add to our products because of their therapeutic properties. Therapeutic plants are commonplace in Jamaica, especially up in the “bush” of our parish of Portland, Jamaica. Traditional Jamaican “folk” medicine is referred to as “bush medicine” (herbal medicine). Some of the herbs are native to Jamaica while others were introduced by African slaves who used knowledge brought from their homeland, along with the new herbs they discovered in Jamaica, to create therapeutic balms and teas. “Bush tea,” for example, is the term for the concoction of many herbs with breadfruit leaves. Bush teas, still today, treat a wide variety of common ailments.

If we’re creating a soap to ward off mosquitos and sand flies, we might want to add some lemongrass or neem. Jamaica’s fresh fruit and vegetables are also fabulous and full of nourishing nutrients but can drastically reduce the shelf life of soap, so we prefer to use them in natural organic powder form when possible. Following are many of the ingredients we use to beautify our soaps and your skin!!
